The specialty of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics is a new branch of our school. After the specialty of Chinese Language & Literature had been permitted a first-level discipline in 1996, the doctoral supervisors at the original branch of Information Engineering transformed to the branch of Applied Linguistics, and began to enroll graduate students. In 2000, it started to enroll doctoral candidates. The specialty is now mainly devoted to the studies on Linguistic Theory, Chinese Information Processing and Foreign Chinese Education, and gains outstanding results on Chinese Words Frequency & Word-stock Construction, Words Correlativity, the Development of Chinese CAI Net Media Course and other aspects.
