The specialty of Chinese Modern and Contemporary Literature has been the traditional superior discipline of our school. Wen Yi-duo, Yang Zhen-sheng, Shen Cong-wen, Lao She, Hong Shen, Zhao Tai-mou, Wang Tong-zhao, Gao Lan, Sun Chang-xi and other celebrated modern writers and scholars had all once taught here and laid a sound foundation for it, breeding a fine tradition. This discipline was one of the earliest disciplines which gained the right to award the master degree in 1981, and has been entitled the right to confer the doctorate degree since 1996. Also, it was included the key disciplines of Shandong Province. Nowadays, it provides the doctorate degree programs as Overall Studies on Chinese Literature of 20th Century, Modern Chinese Literature, Contemporary Chinese Literature, Chinese Modern & Contemporary Literature and Overseas Chinese Literature and etc., owning 7 doctorate supervisors; and the master degree programs as Overall Studies on Chinese Literature of 20th Century, Modern Chinese Literature, Contemporary Chinese Literature, Studies on Lu Xun and so on, owning 16 graduate tutors.
